Strengthening the Narrative for ODA and Beyond: FfD Prep Comm Side Event

Strengthening the Narrative for ODA and Beyond:

How Can Communications Help Shore Up Support for Innovative International Development Cooperation?

Friday, February 14, at 10:00 AM (EST)

Financing for Development

As development finance faces increasing scrutiny in donor countries, traditional narratives have struggled to resonate with constituents. Too often, ODA is framed as a simple transfer of resources from "winners" in the North to "losers" in the South—an outdated approach that does not align with today’s political realities. With inward-looking politics on the rise, how can we craft more compelling, future-proof narratives to sustain support for international development cooperation?

This event, held on the sidelines of the 3rd Preparatory Committee of the 4th International Financing for Development Conference (FfD 4), explores this challenge.

Speakers:

  • Moderator: Minh-Thu Pham - CEO and Co-Founder, Project Starling

  • Speakers:

    • Ben Phillips, communications specialist and former Campaigns and Policy Director at Action Aid

    • Attiya Waris, UN Independent Expert on Foreign Debt, Professor at the University of Nairobi

    • Kate Higgins, CEO, Cooperation Canada

    • Ida McDonnell, Head of Development Research Unit, OECD Directorate for Development Cooperation

    • Mahmoud Mohieldin, Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
